Tissot has been at the forefront of some of the most important inventions in the watch industry and has grown to be one of the largest Swiss watchmakers around. Now sold in more than 160 countries, their timepieces are authentic and accessible.
Tissot Brand History
Tissot was founded in 1853 by Charles-Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Émile Tissot in the Swiss city of Le Locle. The father and son duo turned their house into a small factory and in 1858 Charles-Émile Tissot left home to sell their savonette pocket watches overseas. Tissot introduced the first mass-produced pocket watch as well as the first pocket watch with two time zones in 1853. After numerous generations of Tissot family members working to keep the good name of the company alive, Tissot and Omega became partners under the SSIH banner in 1903. The same year, they released the world’s first anti-magnetic watch. After World War II and until the Quartz Revolution in the early 1970s, Tissot was thriving; some of the brand’s best watches were produced during this time. But when the Quartz Revolution hit, Tissot was heavily affected and the brand had to reconsider its strategy. After a switch to producing mostly quartz watches in the early 1970s, the brand refocused on innovation. Over the past 25 years, two different sides of the brand have developed. The first came in the form of the Tissot T-Touch in 1999, which features a touchscreen display and functions in both digital and analogue form. The other side is a celebration of mechanical watchmaking, with the most popular example being the PRX.
Tissot Style
Tissot is a watch brand for those who seek out great versatility. From sporty smartwatches to pieces of rich history, the brand’s wide portfolio ensures there is a watch for every taste. Tissot has been split into various categories, those being: T-Sport, T-Touch, T-Classic and T-Lady. While they each have individual flair, they share the best parts of fine Swiss watchmaking and exceptional craftsmanship.
Tissot & The World of Sport
Tissot’s relationship with sport began in 1598 when Swiss driver Harry Zweifel sent Tissot a signed photograph where he had written “My Tissot is by my side at every race”. Since then, thanks to the brand’s high calibre, Tissot has maintained its close relationship with various sporting bodies. Tissot has been named the Official Timekeeper and Partner for many prestigious events such as the Tour de France, the MotoGP, the NBA, La Vuelta and the EPCR alongside the IIHF Ice Hockey.
