Swarovski is amongst the most well-known brands in the world. The family-owned business is most well known for its jewellery and home decorations. Through its continuous innovation and creativity, Swarovski has managed to shape the face of jewellery fashion for centuries. Using original techniques, Swarovski has single-handedly managed to turn crystal into a worthy rival of diamonds. Brand History Swarovski, at the time known as KS & Co, was founded in 1895 by Daniel Swarovski and Armand Kosmann. The brand was started after Daniel Swarovski patented an electric cutting machine in 1892. At first, the company focused only on crystal-cutting taking advantage of the local hydroelectric power. Slowly “A diamond for everyone" became one of Swarovski’s mottos and the brand solidified its place not only in crystal gem production but in creating jewellery as well. The 1920s, an era which is known for its opulence, brought more success for the brand. Swarovski crystals were sewn into dresses and costumes to add to the richness and extravagance of the time. The brand steadily grew and in the 1980s Swarovski opened their first boutique. Swarovski has several subsidiaries. Tyrolit was founded in 1919 to produce polishing and grinding tools. 30 years later in 1949, Swarovski Optik was founded as a result of Wilhelm Swarovski, Daniel’s son, creating a pair of binoculars. Modern Day Swarovski Jewellery Since its foundation, Swarovski has expanded its business in many areas, from jewellery and watches to glass sculptures. Even more than 125 years later, the brand is still family ran. Recently Swarovski has taken a new creative direction modernizing its product lines and creating bold new ones to fit the new company vision. Swarovski’s jewellery is characterized not only by its striking designs but also by the experience and techniques used to create the pieces. Truly a master of its craft, Swarovski has earned its position at the forefront of the industry.
