The History of U-Boat Watches The story of U-Boat watches dates back to 1942 when Ilvo Fontana was commissioned to produce a timepiece for Italian naval officers. These watches were set to become the pride of the U-Boat officers crafted by the best Italian watchmaker. However, for unknown reasons, this project was scrapped before any of these watches could reach the wrists of the naval officers. Luckily, the designs, colour samples and materials were preserved for over 60 years. Italo Fontana, a grandson of the watchmaker, used these early designs to finally bring the project to life with the founding of the U-Boat brand. Italian Made, Swiss Powered This collection of U-Boat watches is based around the old designs of a master Italian watchmaker, so it is only right that the watches are manufactured in Italy itself.
