Junghans is one of the most well-respected and sought-after brands in the horological industry. The brand was founded in Schramberg in the Rottweil district of Germany. The brand remains very proud of its German roots and every timepiece it creates is inspired by the surroundings. The head office of Junghans is located near the Black Forest, and an image of this landmark is included on some of the models. The brand is heavily inspired by history and tradition and continues to take inspiration from its past. Brand History Junghans was founded in Germany in 1861 by Erhard Junghans. The brand was an almost instant success and by 1903, they were the largest clock manufacturer in the world. Junghans started by making clocks but began manufacturing watches in 1927. Max Bill began designing for the brand in the 1950s. His artistic background brought a new aesthetic to Junghans watches. Junghans continue to use Max Bill’s original designs and have a collection named after the artist. Over time, the brand gathered more and more respect within the industry and even served as the official timekeeper for the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. Innovators in the Industry Junghans watches are characterised by skilled craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail. The brand uses several of its own in- house movements to ensure that each timepiece works just as it was designed to. Additionally, each finished timepiece is subjected to an intensive quality inspection to ensure for a harmonious combination of aesthetics, precision, wear, comfort and durability. The brand was also a driving force in the production of radio-controlled movements that are used in many of its watches today. Junghans in the Modern Day Although Junghans takes a lot of inspiration from its past, this does not stop it looking to the future. The brand aims to preserve tradition and secure the future. The fascinating history of the Junghans brand will continue to have influence on the design of the brand’s watches whilst each timepiece will be precisely built for modern day wear.
